For this Bento box, main dish is Hambagu which I have the recipe earlier, I make size of Hambagu smaller. For side dish I added “Sweet Honey Carrot Salad” and decorate the Bento with fresh cherry tomatoes, steamed broccoli and boiled quail eggs. As well, I added Umeboshi on the middle of the rice not only to make the Bento look good but Umeboshi is fermented and help with digestion as well.
Serve for 2 Bento Boxes
Ingredients for Bento
- Hambagu with Sauce
- Japanese Rice, steamed
- 2 pieces of Umeboshi (Pickle Ume Plum)
- Dash of Black Sesame Seeds
- Sweet Honey Carrot Salad
- 1/2 of Broccoli, steamed
- 4 Quail Eggs, boiled and peeled
- 4 Fresh Cherry Tomatoes

Ingredients for side dish “Sweet Honey Carrot Salad”
- 1 medium Carrot, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tablespoon of Honey
- 1/2 teaspoon of Soy Sauce
- Pinch of Sea Salt
- Dash of White Sesame Seeds
- Small brunch of Fresh Oregano Leaves for garnish
Preparation
- In a small pot, added water into the pot with medium high heat. When the water start to boil, added carrot and cook for about 5 minutes, plunge into ice water, press out water.
- Then added into salad bowl with honey, soy sauce, salt and sesame seeds. Mixed well and put in individual bento serving silicon cup. Garnish with fresh oregano leaves.
Decorate Bento
- In each Bento box, I put steamed rice for half of the container, then added a cup of carrot salad.
- Added Hambagu meat side way and pour sauce over the meat or you can put the sauce in a small separate container.
- Added steamed broccoli next to the carrot salad cup.
- Added quail eggs, then quickly added cherry tomatoes.
- Decorate quail eggs with black sesame seeds for the owl eyes look.
- Sprinkle black sesame seeds over the rice and then put Umeboshi in the middle of the rice.
