This lunch box is good for picnic or for work, full of nutrition you need each meal and it is the right portion with carbohydrate, protein, vegetable, vitamins, mineral, fiber and good fate with quail eggs.
Onigiri (おにぎり) or rice ball and what I made this time using 5 spices meat sauce filling inside zushi rice and wrap with seaweed. This is the main dish for this bento and add side dish with tamagoyaki, Miso carrot, broccoli, boiled quail eggs, cheery tomato and lettuce.
Serve for 2 Bento Boxes
Ingredients for Bento
- 5 Spices Onigiri
- Tamagoyaki
- Miso Carrots
- 1 Broccoli, steamed
- 4 Quail Eggs, boiled and peeled
- Lettuce Leave for a little Bento decoration
To prepare Bento box might be challenge some time because Bento usually will have 1 main dish with rice and 2 side dishes. If I have rush time, I will prepare some of the ingredients the night before to save time when I do Bento in the next morning.
Ingredients for main dish “5 Spices Onigiri (おにぎり)”
- 1 and 1/2 cups of Japanese Rice, cooked
- 1 tablespoon of Rice Vinegar
- 1 sheet Seaweed, cut as long rectangle for 1 centimeter wide.
- 1/4 pound of Ground pork, beef, chicken, salmon or tuna (whichever meat you prefer)
- 2 teaspoons of Olive Oil
- 5 Spices mixed (use spices as you desire)
Preparation
- In a sauce pan, saute meat with olive oil at medium heat for 2 – 3 minutes, then added 5 spices mixed and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, mixed cooked rice with rice vinegar.
- Let rice cool for about 1 – 2 minutes, then start make rice ball by wet your hand and put a little bit of salt in your hand before scoop rice into your hand and a bit press the rice. Make as 2 inches rice ball size.
- Added meat sauce filling, then cover with a bit of rice over the filling and press rice ball.
- Wrapped with seaweed sheet.
- Make at least 4 rice balls, 2 rice balls for each Bento
Ingredients for side dish “Tamagoyaki” (玉子焼き)
- 3 large Eggs
- 2 tablespoons of Mirin
- Pinch of Salt
Preparation
- Mixed 3 eggs with Mirin and sprinkle of salt. To make it easy, separate into 4 little bowls.
- In a fry pan, added vegetable oil with medium heat.
- Added mixed egg into fry pan and use long chop stick roll in and let it cook for 2 minutes and push roll egg forward then add more mixed egg until it finish the last bowl.
- Then cut 1 inch long and ready to put in the Bento.
Ingredients for side dish “Miso Carrots”
- 1 medium Carrot, peeled skin off, cut 1 and 1/2 inch long
- 1 tablespoon of Miso Paste
- 1/2 tablespoon of Mirin
- 1 teaspoon of Sugar
Preparation
In a fry pan, added carrot with sugar and mirin, stir for 5 minutes or until carrot cook. Then added miso paste and stir until every thing corporate.
Decorate Bento
Last step for bento is a fun step, decorate the bento with vegetables and fruits This bento I decorate with broccoli, cherry tomato, lettuce, and boiled quail eggs.
