We arrived in Rome train station in the afternoon and checked in at the hotel, we settled with everything by late afternoon. There was no time to waste due to we stayed here for very short time. At the same day, we got ready for go out to have dinner and did a quick tour around the area we stayed.
Rome is a capital of Italy, it is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. This city is very attractive with full of histories in every corner, everywhere you step on might be some histories going on 1,000 year ago. We used a guide to tour around the city and all details of the histories in each place we went.
We used a guide tour for Colosseum, The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Only these 3 places took us all day that the guide tour started at 8 in the morning and we finished around 3 pm. We started tour at Colosseum first, it is an oval amphitheatre in the center of the city of Rome. Built of travertine, tuff, and brick-faced concrete, it is the largest amphitheatre that ever built. Right next to Colosseum was the Roman Forum and this place is really big and this was where Caesars used to live in this place at the top level. The Roman Forum is a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. It was very interesting how Roman built and rule the city of Rome. We hit Palatine Hill when we took a tour to the top level of The Roman Forum. The Palatine Hill is the centremost of the Seven Hills of Rome and is one of the most ancient part of the city. It stands 40 meters above the The Roman Forum, looking down upon it on one side, and upon the Circus Maximus on the other. From the time of Augustus Imperial palaces were built here. After we finished tour in the afternoon, we continued to explore more by ourselves around near by places until evening.
Next day, we took a tour for wine tasting at the winery in suburb area of Rome. We took a bus to get there approximately 1 hour away from the city. We got to see other side of Rome and it felt different. It was very interesting how Italian making wine, plus, we tasted some wine and tried some Italian homemade food, very delicious!
We had a chance to visit Vatican City, is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. It’s home to the Pope and a trove of iconic art and architecture. Its Vatican Museums house ancient Roman sculptures such as the famed “Laocoön and His Sons” as well as Renaissance frescoes in the Raphael rooms and the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling.
To visit this Vatican City and Museum, we need to get tickets to get in and we stayed on line for almost an hour due to ton of tourists and group tours want to get in there at the same time. Good thing that we brought some bottles of water while we were waiting on line to get in. However, there is a check point at the gate before you get in.
Transportation
Subway will not support you in every destination, I think it due to the city have limited space to build subway because they have ancient buildings everywhere. So, we have to take bus some time and there are maps for bus routes at the station for you to find out. Don’t forget to get a ticket before you get into the bus though.
Where to Eat
There are ton of restaurants for your to choose from to try. However, we found one place in suburb area of Rome called “Casetta di Grastevere Ristorante”, every menu at this restaurants taste …r e a l l y!… delicious and we love the price, it was very reasonable price.
We stayed in Rome only for 3 nights, I think that was not enough time. Rome is really big and I think we need more days to explore around. There are many places that we have missed. We were really enjoy exploring their histories in Rome. Next time until we come again, we will make sure that we will stay longer than 3 nights.
This city is crowed with many people and there are many pickpockets everywhere staring at tourists that is their main target. They are working as a team, so watch out for that for your money and your belonging safety!
Our next destination for Florence and we took bullet train from Rome to Florence, it took us approximately an hour and a half. However, we decided to explore Pisa when we arrived to Florence train station. The good thing about train station in Italy that there are luggage deposit services for a few hours while we were exploring Pisa City. We left our luggage at the train station service and we bought train ticket to Pisa for round trip. It took us about another hour and a half to Pisa from Florence.
Will be continue “1 Day Trip in Pisa”
